Version 0.4 will have a new account wizard to make setting up gContactSync for the first time and adding accounts easier.  The first page is for selecting an account to sync.  It finds IMAP and POP3 accounts in addition to existing gContactSync tokens so most users won’t even have to sign in.  The second page lets you choose an address book and the group(s) to sync.

Please let me know what you think, particularly whether I should include the synchronization direction (read-only, write-only, or bidirectional) and whether Google or TB has priority during conflicts.

I have updated to gcontactsync-0.4.0b4-sm+tb. Both this version and the previous tell me that my gmail account has been set up already (I had installed an earlier version and uninstalled it). When I try to sync, it reports No changes or updates, which is definitely untrue.

On a congratulations note: the new beta interface with a choice of one way (PC to Google) is great!

This looks great!

I think the sync direction should be included. The reason is that somebody (like me) could have a well-maintained TB address book, but a very outdated Gmail address book, because they have not synced the two accounts before. For others, it could be the other way around. So this is important for people who want to sync the accounts for the first time.

As for priority, why not ask at the first conflict and provide a checkbox to remember the decision?

Do you already have an approximate release date? I am waiting desperately with my existing TB address book…

Murray, could you turn on verbose logging in the preferences then e-mail me the log?

@Dan Thanks, I added the sync direction to the wizard. I work on gContactSync on the weekends and can’t predict my availability in advance. I hope to release 0.4.0 by the end of February, though.

You mentioned that multiple gmail accounts would be available in 0.4 but I don’t see that in the feature list. Is it in this build, or didn’t it make it in?

(multiple email accounts all using the same contact list as the TB contact list,,,,something Zindus use to do great)
