gContactSync and Contact Photos
« on: January 09, 2010, 07:39:23 AM »
Hi,

both add-ons are really great!

I have a couple of suggestions and a question.

Suggestions:

-gContactSync does not appear to synchronize the Photos I add in the TB address book in Google. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I think this would be a nice feature.
-It would be nice to associate a default photo to each address book, to be used when a member of that address book has not a private photo. For example, my 'Google Contacts' address book is divided in several sub-groups (maybe you call them mailing lists). If a 'Work' member does not have a photo, Contact Photo could associate it a photo with a business bag, or something like that, while for 'Sport' members, it could associate a football. Of course, if a member has its own photo, that would be the one displayed.

Question:

-I'm trying to synchronize my TB address books on my different computers. I'm using Dropbox. I had some problems with the address books names, so I started from scratch on a computer. I deleted my address books and simply let gContactSync do the synchronization with my Google account. I have three address books in TB now: 'Personal', 'Google Contacts' and 'Collected'. In the profile dir I have two files: 'abook.mab' and 'abook-3.mab'. The latter should be the Google one. Is that correct? I disabled the automatic collection of e-mail addresses in the Collected address book. Therefore, I should only synchronize  'abook.mab' and 'abook-3.mab' over the computers (as weel as the Photos dir). Is that right?

Thank you for your great work,

Stefano

You are correct.  Version 0.3 will download photos from Google but it probably won't update them if you modify the photo from Thunderbird.  This wiki article has more details on version 0.3.  I will be releasing the first alpha (early test) version soon.

That is a good idea, I'll keep it in mind for the Contact Photos extension.

abook.mab is always the Personal Address Book and history.mab is always the Collected Addresses.  abook-X.mab is always the Xth address book that you created.  So, abook-3.mab should be your Google Contacts address book.
