Copying new contacts to a group by default
« on: October 15, 2009, 01:44:00 PM »
As I'm sure many know, a number of Google sync programs (particularly many of those that sync Google to mobile phones) only sync the My Contacts group.

For this, the current "Sync only the My Contacts group" option in the preferences menu is very handy.

But what if we want all groups to sync anyway?  Using Gmail groups won't help much on the mobile side, but they're handy to be able to use in Thunderbird.

So what I'd really like is the ability to sync everything, but to automatically add new contacts (which would be the only ones influenced by this on the TB side) to the My Contacts group, not just All Contacts.

Granted, I could just move every new user I create in Thunderbird to the My Contacts group in my synced address book -- but that can be a bit of a pain, and it defeats the purpose of TB3's new easier-to-use "save to contacts" front-end dialog.

Would this sort of thing be doable in an upcoming version of the extension?

And by the way -- I'm with the many others that have tried a number of Google contact sync methods and have found this one to be by far the most reliable of the bunch.  Thank you for the great job!

Hello,

It is possible, and I wrote an enhancement request for it.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to implement it in the near future as I'd like to start focusing on finishing version 0.3 and it would require a lot of backend work.  You are not the first person who asked this, so I definitely am considering it.

Thanks for the suggestion, and please don't hesitate to make more. :)
