Really good work and thank you again and very much for this plug.
The synchronization of phone numbers from Gmail to Thunderbird is false.
The numbers put on display by odre gmail in order of ranking of Thunderbird.
For example, the mobile phone will become the number works.
And if you desactice gcontactsync, the numbers are not assigned correctly: for xemple fax-> mobile or works or else.
Maybe that simply must be set first five numbers, even if there are empty.

It is simply a display problem in the main window up. In the detail is right when the plug is on but when is off, it's false.

If it lacks anything, it can synchronize an address book from Thunderbird to a category gmail. Or class of Thunderbird to a Gmail contact.
Thank

zazy

I suppose that if you disable the plug-in all mapping features got lost. The mapping is necessary because not all applications stores data in the same way and, more important, not all applications stores the same data! This plugin maps your Thunderbird contacts data into the same semantic gMail contacts data.
To accomplish its task the plugin re-arrange the data inside thunderbird contacts so, if you disable the plug-in you lost your mapping.Hoping this helps (and hoping I understood your question  ;D).

Hello,

fouquet, thanks for the comments.
zazy, thanks for posting the answer (which is correct :)).

To explain further, this is by design since Google can synchronize multiple numbers of the same type and Thunderbird cannot without gContactSync.  gContactSync ignores the actual names of the phone number fields in Thunderbird and instead adds types (Work, Home, Mobile, etc) to make it match Gmail, and improve the address book IMO.

I do see why it can be a problem after disabling or uninstalling gContactSync, or even when using another sync app with Thunderbird.  I'd be happy to explain how to use the new phone fields and types to any other extension author if necessary.  I filed Bug 20962 for looking into this, but I cannot make any promises yet.

I'm using gContactSync 0.2.4 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.22.

I've noticed that the "Kind" of phone number you choose in the "Phones" section of Thunderbird's Address Book cards makes no difference. The numbers/kinds are always mapped like this in Thunderbird:

First - Work
Second - Home
Third - Work Fax
Fourth - Mobile
Five - Pager

So if you put the Home number in the First slot and change the drop-down to Home, the number will still be listed as Work in Thunderbird.

I have also encountered the problem that fouquet is having but I don't understand why. I have disabled then enabled (not uninstalled) gContactSync once and swapped between Thunderbird 2 or 3 a couple of times, but I think it may be happening whether I do that or not (of course, I could be wrong).

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Richard

Hi,

When you say the first number is still listed as "Work", is that with gContactSync enabled or disabled?  And where does it say that it is a work number?  When gContactSync gets disabled all of its customizations are gone, which includes the different phone number types.  If you move any contacts in Thunderbird 2 with gContactSync disabled they will lose their custom fields.

Enabled.

And where does it say that it is a work number?
The columns in the main Thunderbird Address Book window. I noticed you had an option to "Rename the phone column labels". I tried disabling and enabling it but that didn't seem to make a difference. I have it enabled now.

When gContactSync gets disabled all of its customizations are gone, which includes the different phone number types.  If you move any contacts in Thunderbird 2 with gContactSync disabled they will lose their custom fields.
Thanks for that information. I'll try and avoid disabling the extension in the future.

Thanks.

Richard
