Are you trying to synchronize Google Contacts or import contacts from MySpace or Plaxo? Is there an error message in the Error Console (under the Tools menu) or anything in the log? If you click on the bottom right side of the address book window status bar the log
Also, which version of gContactSync and Thunderbird are you using? You can find that under Tools -> Add-ons and Help -> About Thunderbird or in the log. The latest version of gContactSync 0.3 is 0.3.0a7.
